There was a brief hiccup over the past two days due to Markdown plugin not working after a WordPress upgrade.

This has now been fixed.

photos.koinic.net is getting an downgrade

You will notice that photos.koinic.net hasn’t been updated for a while. That’s because I am currently downgrading the software used to run the site (Gallery2) to a custom-written photo gallery, which doesn’t require a database.

The main reason for this is that my needs for photos.koinic.net are quite modest, and can probably save quite a bit of disk space by using simpler software.

Hopefully I can get it running over the next month or two.

You may notice that I have updated the blog’s look and feel slightly.

The original theme, also called Methodological Madness, was two years old and is beginning to look dated. The new theme, called Madness 2, is more modern and slightly more colourful, while still retaining a link to its past.

I’m still doing some finetuning on a number of aspects, so expect some more subtle changes soon.

This site now runs on PHP 5

My friendly ISP, Quadra Hosting, moved this site from bsd1 to bsd13. This means that this web site now runs on PHP 5.

It is timely because version 7 of Drupal will no longer be compatible with PHP 4.

Yes, I realise that it has been a while (a bit more than a month, in fact) since I last posted. That’s because I’m working on what is possibly an exciting new initiative at the Koinic Network.

Meanwhile, please be aware that my congregation is celebrating its tenth anniversary very soon. It seems to have gone so quickly.

Upgrades galore

This week has been upgrade season.

Having just upgraded the church’s English Ministry web site with Drupal 4.6.5, Methodological Madness has just been upgraded to WordPress 2.0.

Drupal 4.6.5 is clearly better with the introduction of iCalendar support, which will help the increasing number of Mac users at Church. Apparently WordPress 2.0 is better as well.

As I have promised, I have from last time, I have moved:

to a new domain koinic.net, although there is not much there at the moment
to a new server (naturally); and
a new blogging software, although not the one I had originally envisioned.

All in all, it took me about one month’s worth of thinking. Which is good by my standards.

As you are now aware, ever since I last posted more than six months ago, I’ve really been very busy.

The maxim is true: actuarial students have no life.

Nevertheless, I’m still thinking about paying for spaces so that I could run a one or more better blogging software so that I could publish more on topics that interest me.

I don’t know how long I will be thinking though.
